On October 24, Binance crypto exchange founder Changpeng Zhao suggested that US President Donald Trump may be the man who created the Bitcoin cryptocurrency under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

“President Trump and Satoshi. They may be the same person,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The post was published in response to a report that Trump did not believe he had not yet met with Zhao in person.

In May 2024, a US court sentenced Zhao to four months in prison for “violating US laws on an unprecedented scale.” Prosecutors allegedly accused Zhao of violating the Bank Secrecy Act and operating an unlicensed money transmitter. According to the prosecution, the exchange processed more than 1.5 million transactions worth approximately $900 million, allegedly related to terrorist financing and other illegal activities. Zhao pleaded guilty as part of the prosecution's investigation.

Later, on October 23, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Trump had pardoned Zhao. It was clarified that this came after several months of efforts and Zhao's support for the Trump family's cryptocurrency project, World Liberty Financial.
