Illegal mining farms have been discovered again in Dagestan.
In the village of Maidanskoye in the Untsukulsky District of Dagestan, employees of Rosseti North Caucasus, together with security forces, discovered and destroyed three cryptocurrency mining rigs. Power engineers reported that 103 units of equipment were seized.
The largest farm, discovered by power engineers in an orchard, contained 68 mining devices. The owner of the equipment had installed a magnet on the electricity meter, allowing him to understate consumption readings. Rosseti estimated the damage to its power grid from this illegally connected farm at 1.2 million rubles.
Another 14 mining devices were discovered on the property of a neighboring farm complex. The farm owner had illegally installed a 200-meter-long cable and connected it to a substation supplying power to part of the village. Damages are preliminarily estimated at 950,000 rubles.
A third farm with 23 mining devices was located next to the aforementioned complex. The extent of the damage caused to the energy sector is still being determined.
All equipment seized from three mining farms was handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
Earlier, representatives of Rosseti North Caucasus announced that 58 cases of illegal connections to power grids for cryptocurrency mining had been recorded in the Republic of Dagestan since the beginning of the year. The Russian government has completely banned mining in Dagestan and the rest of the North Caucasus.
