Expansion into Germany: Coinmerce receives MiCAR license

  • On November 6, 2025, the Dutch crypto company Coinmerce received its MiCAR license from the Dutch Financial Markets Authority (AFM). This makes Coinmerce one of the few platforms in Europe to hold full authorization under the new EU regulation “Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation” (MiCAR). The license entitles the company to offer its crypto services in all 27 member states of the European Union.
  • MiCAR establishes, for the first time, a uniform regulatory framework for providers of digital assets in the EU. The regulation sets strict requirements for transparency, security, and the handling of client funds.
  • For users, the license means that in the future they will be able to exchange crypto assets for fiat currencies on the platform, have them stored or managed, and process transactions via Coinmerce.
  • The company announced that it intends to strategically expand its market position in Europe with the MiCAR certification. Initial marketing and expansion measures are planned to launch in Germany and France. “We are very proud to have received the license. This recognition is the result of intensive work by our entire team,” said Coinmerce CEO Jaap de Bruijn. “Thanks to MiCAR, we can now offer our services securely and transparently throughout Europe.”
  • Nikola Péliová, Chief Compliance Officer at Coinmerce, emphasized the importance of the new regulation: “MiCAR offers a clear, structured framework for greater transparency and legal certainty. This ensures that uniform rules can be consistently applied in all EU countries.”
  • Coinmerce was founded in 2017 by brothers Nick and Luc Smits van Oyen. The company is one of the established players in the Dutch crypto market. In recent years, Coinmerce has acquired, among other things, the Dutch customers of Binance and BUX, and in 2024 a majority stake in the BLOX platform.
