Key points:
- Miller Whitehouse-Levin is stepping down as head of the DeFi Education Fund and is a prominent advocate for crypto policy in Washington.
- He will be replaced by Amanda Tuminelli, who represents the organization and serves as its chief legal officer.
Miller Whitehouse-Levin, one of the key advocates for decentralized finance (DeFi) in the US, is stepping down as executive director of the DeFi Education Foundation and will be replaced by the group's chief legal officer Amanda Tuminelli.
It was announced on Thursday that Whitehouse-Levin, a well-known figure in U.S. cryptocurrency circles, will remain on the fund's board, with a source familiar with his plans saying he will take on an as-yet-undisclosed position that will allow him to continue to actively lobby for the industry.
“I have made the difficult decision to leave my current role at DeFi Education Fund to explore new opportunities. Ultimately, this decision was an easy one for me as I am confident that Amanda’s extremely talented leadership, dedication, and outstanding capabilities will take DEF to new heights in serving the DeFi community,” he said in a statement announcing the transition of the group, which was formed in 2021.
The digital asset DeFi sector has scored a significant victory in recent days as Congress seeks to repeal the Biden administration's new Internal Revenue Service rule that would have imposed devastating compliance requirements on DeFi projects.
“For the first time in DeFi history, there is a significant bipartisan group of U.S. policymakers and regulators actively and constructively discussing sound crypto legislation, regulatory frameworks, and how they can combine with technological innovation, and our mission at the DeFi Education Fund has never been more urgent,” Tuminelli said.
