Cathie Wood: Hyperliquid “reminds me of the old Solana”
- Investment expert Cathie Wood compared Hyperliquid to Solana on The Master Investor podcast, calling it “the new kid on the block.” “It's exciting. It reminds me of Solana in the early days, and Solana has proven its worth and is up there with the big boys,” Wood said. The 69-year-old did not confirm a position in Hyperliquid, but described the protocol as a project to watch.
- Recently, competition between Perp DEXs intensified after Aster launched a token at the beginning of the month. Trading volume and open interest on the platform subsequently significantly surpassed Hyperliquid. Some analysts even believe the project, backed by Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, could permanently overtake the Perp market leader.
- Despite the growing number of tokens on the market, Wood believes the future of cryptocurrencies belongs to a small group of dominant networks. “We don't think there will be very many cryptocurrencies,” she said.
- While Ethereum is powering the DeFi ecosystem, Wood highlighted Bitcoin's role as a monetary system, citing its fixed supply and resilience. She also noted the growing importance of stablecoins, but clarified that Bitcoin remains central to ARK's long-term thesis.
- ARK Invest currently holds three major crypto positions in its mutual funds: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Wood acknowledged that the fund also holds other crypto assets such as Uniswap and the Solana protocol, but said its core focus remains narrow. “When you talk about the big guys and girls, those are the big three right now,” she said.
- If you want to buy Hyperliquid, you can do so at Bitpanda, among others.
