On September 8, 2025, Japanese investment company Metaplanet announced an investment of $15.2 million to purchase 136 BTC. This was reported by Simon Gerovich, CEO of Japanese investment company Metaplanet.

The average price of the asset was $103,196, and the total amount of investments in the first cryptocurrency exceeded $2 billion, and the number of bitcoins in the portfolio reached 20,136 BTC.
According to Bitcoin Treasuries, the company ranks sixth among all public bitcoin holders.
Recall that in early September, Metaplanet announced an expanded strategy to accumulate 210,000 BTC by 2027, as it reached its initial target of 10,000 BTC faster than planned.
Thus, at the time of writing, Metaplanet's unrealized profit is almost $2.25 billion, since the asset was valued at $111,591, according to TradingView.

In addition, according to the company's statement, its return on investment in the first cryptocurrency was:
- from July 1 to September 30, 2024 – 41.7%;
- from October 1 to December 31, 2024 – 309.8%;
- from January 1 to March 31, 2025 – 95.6%;
- from April 1 to June 30, 2025 – 129.4%;
- from July 1 to September 8, 2025 – 30.8%.
