US President's Son to Attend Metaplanet Shareholders Meeting to Choose Methods to Raise Funds to Buy Bitcoin

Eric Trump is planning to travel to Japan to expand his family's cryptocurrency activities, Bloomberg has learned. The US president's son plans to attend a shareholders' meeting of Japanese crypto company Metaplanet on September 1.

Metaplanet, a former hotel chain operator, adopted a Bitcoin accumulation strategy similar to Michael Saylor's Strategy in April 2024. Since then, the Japanese company has accumulated 18,888 BTC ($2.13 billion at current exchange rates) and ranks 7th on the list of the largest public companies with Bitcoin reserves.

In March, Metaplanet appointed Eric Trump as a strategic adviser. Also appointed as an adviser was David Bailey, one of the prominent representatives of the Bitcoin community in the United States. His company BTC Inc owns Bitcoin Magazine and organizes the largest crypto conferences in the United States. Bailey was Donald Trump's adviser on cryptocurrency policy during the election campaign.

Metaplanet is buying cryptocurrency by raising funds through a securities offering. The company's goal is to accumulate 210,000 BTC by 2027. In early August, Metaplanet was going to raise another $3.7 billion to buy bitcoins through a stock offering.

Metaplanet shareholders are set to vote on the matter in Tokyo on September 1. Eric Trump will join the meeting after attending the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong on August 28-29.

Last week, it was reported that American Bitcoin miner, which is backed by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., was looking for potential partners in Asia. The company was reportedly interested in buying listed firms in Japan and possibly Hong Kong.
