Ethereum: An overview of the wealthiest ETH holders

While smart contracts and institutions dominate the list of rich Ethereum owners in 2025, a few individuals still own vast amounts of ETH.
Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum, head of ConsenSys, and currently chairman of Ethereum treasury firm Sharplink, owns an estimated 500,000 ETH (approximately $1.2 billion). However, this has never been officially confirmed. Recently, the crypto bull predicted: “Ethereum will increase 100x again, probably even more.”
Additionally, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, is believed to own between 250,000 and 280,000 ETH (approximately $950 million). These are said to be largely distributed across a small number of non-custodial wallets.
Rain Lõhmus, co-founder of LHV Bank, purchased 250,000 ETH during the 2014 Initial Coin Offering (ICO) but lost access to the private key. His ETH remains untouched and is now worth nearly $900 million.
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, founders of the US crypto exchange Gemini, are said to personally control approximately 150,000 to 200,000 ETH, separate from the exchange treasury of over 360,000 ETH.
Anthony Di Iorio, another Ethereum co-founder, also reportedly still holds 50,000-100,000 ETH.
Wealthy crypto investors tend to attract a lot of attention in the space. Just yesterday, whales sold $1.8 billion worth of ETH, pushing down the price. New blockchain projects from Google Cloud, Circle, and Stripe are also currently putting pressure on Ethereum.
The Ethereum treasury race is currently led by Bitmine Immersion Technologies (around 1,800,000 ETH) and Lubin's SharpLink Gaming (around 800,000 ETH).
BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) currently holds over 3,000,000 ETH, while all spot ETFs combined hold more than 5,000,000 ETH. Coinbase (just under 5,000,000 ETH) and Binance (around 4,200,000 ETH) are the two exchanges with the largest ETH holdings.
