- American miners have reached a new record, controlling 30% of the Bitcoin hashrate.
- Their increased share could change the dynamics of the Bitcoin network.
- This growing dominance could impact Bitcoin's decentralization.
For the first time in history, US-based Bitcoin miners now control a record 30% of the Bitcoin network’s hashrate. This 800 basis point increase since the halving highlights the need for miners to maintain their position in the Bitcoin world. This rapid hashrate dominance could impact the future of Bitcoin and its performance, which inevitably affects altcoins as well. As US miners increase their share, they could find themselves in the spotlight for a possible trend in mining power that shapes the fates of the long term.

US Miners' Share of Bitcoin Hashrate Increases
The graph illustrating the share of US miners in the network hashrate shows that there has been a significant increase in control over the Bitcoin network. In January 2022, they accounted for only 14.8% of the total US miner network hashrate. However, since December 2022, this figure has jumped to 24.4%, demonstrating how quickly US miners have gained a dominant position in mining activity. In March 2025, this figure even increased to an impressive 30%. This trend means that US miners control almost a third of the Bitcoin network, an all-time high.
The faster development of control by US miners can actually be traced back to the Bitcoin halving that occurred in May 2020, which led to strategic moves by publicly traded mining companies. Many of these developments occurred throughout 2023 and early 2024. One such change occurred between November 2023 and February 2024, where there was an increase from 22.6% to 27.3%, confirming the aggressive moves by publicly traded miners to gain control of the mining sector. This figure is projected to be in a stable range of 21% to 27% by mid-2024.
Impact on Bitcoin Decentralization
Decentralization is one of Bitcoin’s key characteristics. However, it is currently being undermined by the growing concentration of the network’s hashrate under the control of US miners. While the increased share of the hashrate for US miners has increased Bitcoin’s security, it also runs counter to the ideal of a fully decentralized network. If these miners continue to increase their influence, it could lead to more centralized control, giving a few large players significant power over Bitcoin’s fate.
