Dagestan has become the leader in the number of cases of illegal mining.

Rosseti North Caucasus specialists stated that 58 cases of illegal connections to power grids for cryptocurrency mining have been recorded in the Republic of Dagestan since the beginning of the year.

This is the highest figure in the North Caucasus Federal District. According to energy officials, the amount of stolen electricity exceeded 650 million rubles.

“Rosseti North Caucasus stopped 80 cases of unaccounted electricity consumption by mining farms in the North Caucasus Federal District during the first eight months of 2025. The Republic of Dagestan topped the list of unauthorized connections to power grids for cryptocurrency mining, with 58 cases of energy theft totaling 76 million rubles,” the company stated.

In Ingushetia, 14 mining farms were shut down, causing damages totaling 475 million rubles. Five violations were discovered in Karachay-Cherkessia, three in North Ossetia, and one in Stavropol Krai. Law enforcement agencies opened criminal cases for several instances of electricity theft.

Energy officials emphasized that illegal mining causes significant damage to power lines and transformer substations and leads to a large number of fires at power facilities.

From January 1, 2025, to March 15, 2031, the government has banned cryptocurrency mining in ten Russian regions. These include Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, and Chechnya.

Earlier, Andrey Maksimov, Director of the Ministry of Energy's Department of Electric Power Development, stated that the ministry does not currently expect new restrictions on cryptocurrency mining.
