CKpool Launches Low Latency Pool After Solo Miner Claims 3.175 BTC Reward

Con Kolivas, developer and administrator of CKpool, announced on X the launch of a new solo BTC pool, which will be based in Brisbane, Australia. The main goal of this pool is to support miners from Oceania and the Asia-Pacific region.

The new AU Solo Pool is separated from the main CK and EU Solo BTC mining pool to improve latency and performance. According to X's announcement , the AU BTC pool will operate with low latency.

Con Kolivas noted that the blocks created by the AU BTC mining pool will be distributed among other linked pools. In addition, AU BTC blocks will have the same signature as the main CK pool, but with the prefix “ckpoolau”.

The developer specified that miners will be able to use other related pools for backup. The main CK pool covers most regions of the world, but with relatively low latency.

The AU pool will likely be dominated by Bitaxe

Con Kolivas predicted that the AU pool will be mostly made up of Bitaxe mining rigs. He also noted that the AU pool will have the lowest hashrate among other CK pools. This is due to the high electricity prices in Australia.

Currently, the average cost of electricity for households in Australia is A$33 per kilowatt hour (kWh), while commercial electricity costs between A$25 and A$45 per kWh. In the United States, the average cost of household electricity is 12.89 US cents per kWh (equivalent to 19.6 Australian cents), while in Australia it is A$33 per kWh . This is 60% of the amount Australians pay for each kilowatt hour of electricity.

The average Bitaxe rig hashrate ranges from 0.4 to 1.2 terahashes (TH/s). This means that electricity costs for a Bitaxe solo miner in Australia would be AUD$16 per day at an average residential tariff of AUD$33, and AUD$12 to AUD$22 per day at a commercial tariff of AUD$25 to AUD$45 per kWh.

While the daily costs may seem insignificant, SoloChance's calculations show that it would take 14,075 years to solve a Bitcoin block and earn a mining fee of 3.175 BTC .

A Bitaxe rig typically sells for around $150 per unit, and dedicated miners typically use a cluster of 2-4 BTC rigs.

Bitcoin Solo Miner Mines 3.175 BTC with 200 Ph/s Performance

Yesterday, Con Kolivas congratulated a solo miner on winning 3,175 BTC after solving block number 904,989. The miner solved block 302 solo with an impressive hashrate of 200 petahashes per second (Ph/s). Con Kolivas noted, “A miner of this size would solve a block on average about every 35 days at the current mining difficulty.”

He also added that a miner of this level is likely renting its hashrate. This is because its high speed of 200 Ph/s significantly exceeds the hashrate of available mining equipment. The developer reported that this miner started mining Bitcoin on January 9, 2025. This happened only about 7 months ago.

In 2017, Con Kolivas opened a public Bitcoin mining pool with zero fees . The pool provided instant payouts to miners in cryptocurrency. The developer created the pool as a service for the community. However, in 2020, he closed it down because he was unable to attract enough hashrate to keep it operational.
