Bitmain Unveils 'Most Efficient' Mining Rig Amid Market Changes

Bitmain has unveiled the Antminer S23 Hydro series, which boasts a performance of 580 terahash per second (TH/s) and consumes 5510 watts, making it the “most efficient” mining rig on the market.

Declining interest in mining equipment

Bitcoin miner manufacturer Bitmain has announced a new Antminer S23 Hydro series that reportedly offers 580 terahash per second (TH/s) while consuming 5,510 watts of power. This performance, which equates to an efficiency level of 9.5 joules per terahash (J/TH), makes the Antminer the “most efficient” mining rig available today.

According to a recent report from theminermag.com, the new device is ideal for Bitcoin miners looking to increase profits while keeping their operating costs in check. The rig was unveiled at the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) 2025, where Irene Gao, President of Mining at Bitmain, discussed the company’s strategy to overcome the decline in demand for mining rigs.

The analysis highlights that Bitmain offers flexible payment terms, including the option to make payments in three installments, starting with 40% of the sale price and then in two equal installments. Buyers can use Bitcoin (BTC) as collateral for up to six months to secure their mining rigs.

Following the recent BTC halving on April 20, 2024, which reduced the block reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, Bitcoin miners' revenues have been reduced. This has left mining companies with a choice: switch to more energy-efficient devices or seek cheaper electricity. Mining firms that fail to do either may find themselves forced to close their operations.

Meanwhile, the report notes that ASIC buyers now have more bargaining power, as evidenced by recent deals. It claims that companies like Cleanspark, Hut 8, and HIVE have secured favorable terms from Bitmain by taking advantage of falling demand and manufacturers’ need to maintain sales despite shrinking margins.

At the same time, Bitmain plans to begin the first shipments of the new Antminer S23 Hydro in the first quarter of 2026, and early buyers will be able to count on discounts.
