An underground mining farm was discovered in Dagestan

Specialists from Dagenergo, a branch of the Russian state-owned company Rosseti North Caucasus, found and destroyed an underground mining farm with 135 devices. The farm operated in the basement of a residential building on Laptiyev Street in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala.

Power engineers said that the illegal connection to the grid caused power outages for residents of this house and neighboring buildings. The outages lasted for several months. The cryptocurrency mining farm consumed as much electricity as a separate residential building, Dagenergo said.

Law enforcement agencies are currently looking for the owner of the equipment. He faces a criminal case for theft of electricity on an especially large scale. After the inspection, all equipment found on the farm was seized.

Since January 1, the Russian government has imposed a complete ban on mining in several regions of the country, including Dagestan. In most other regions, digital asset mining is only allowed under state control. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs registered in a special register of the Federal Tax Service (FTS), as well as individuals, have the right to mine within the limit of 6,000 kWh per month.

Since July 30, Russian authorities have approved rules for the transfer of information about miners by data center operators to the tax service.

Earlier, the acting director of Dagenergo, Arsen Gadzhiev, announced the liquidation of a mining farm located on the territory of a canning factory in the village of Khadzhalmakhi.
