Trademark dispute: Ethereum project Xai sues Elon Musk's xAI

Ex Populus, the company that operates the Ethereum-based gaming network Xai, has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's AI company xAI, alleging trademark infringement.
According to the company, the similarity in the names easily led to confusion, which ultimately resulted in financial damage. According to Ex Populus, the “XAI” trademark has been used since June 2023, particularly in the context of its blockchain gaming ecosystem and its XAI token.
It is further argued that the public presence of Musk's AI company, xAI, has led to a dilution of its own brand identity. The lawsuit emphasizes that this is a “classic case of trademark infringement.”
It is also emphasized that Xai already has an active user base and has established its brand in various areas of blockchain gaming. Musk's company's simultaneous use of the xAI name poses a risk of confusion among investors, partners, and users.
The lawsuit also accuses Musk's legal team of pressuring the company to abandon its trademark rights. Ex Populus, in turn, is now seeking damages for infringement and an injunction that would prevent Musk's company from using the name in connection with gaming and blockchain in the future.
