Cash injection for Ripple: Citadel and others invest $500 million.

Ripple has announced a $500 million strategic investment round, led by alternative asset manager Fortress Investment Group and market maker Citadel Securities. The crypto company is valued at $40 billion as a result.
The capital increase, in which Pantera Capital, Galaxy Digital, Brevan Howard and Marshall Wace also participated, crowns what was, according to a statement released on Wednesday, the most successful year in the company's history.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghose stated: “We started in 2012 with one use case – payments – and have expanded this success to custody, stablecoins, prime brokerage and corporate treasury, leveraging digital assets such as XRP.”
The new funding is intended to deepen relationships with traditional financial heavyweights. Ripple's plan is to further penetrate institutional markets with its stablecoin, prime brokerage, and treasury solutions.
Garlinghouse told X that the capital increase was “like the icing on the cake of a mountain of good news” for Ripple last year. The company and the SEC had settled their nearly five-year legal battle by agreeing to withdraw all appeals.
Ripple subsequently made strategic investments worth over $4 billion, including the acquisitions of prime broker Hidden Road, treasury management company GTreasury, and most recently, custody service provider Palisade.
The company said it has repurchased more than 25 percent of its shares in recent years to provide liquidity to employees and early investors. The current funding round will now introduce new institutional shareholders.
A recent landmark court ruling concerning XRP caused a stir. Furthermore, a leading member of the Solana Foundation harshly criticized the Ripple community, lamenting the slow adoption of the XRP Ledger. He appealed to investors: “You have to ask yourself if it’s still worth it.”
