BMW delivers car created as NFT
- It sounds like a story only the crypto space can tell. Car manufacturer BMW has now officially delivered a car that was originally created as an NFT from the Bored Ape ecosystem. This is according to a press release obtained by BTC-ECHO.
- The “Apecar”, the name of the BMW model, is a special edition based on the Bavarian car manufacturer’s M235 xDrive.
- The vehicle was created in the metaverse of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, “The Otherside.” The car was first presented to a wider public last year at ApeFest in Lisbon.
- The design is characterized by a mosaic of differently colored particles.
- Only Bored Apes owners could purchase the Apecar. There are approximately 10,000 people worldwide who own this NFT.
- The winning bid ultimately went to Dennis W., the managing director of the crypto comparison portal Cryptoticker.io. The price he paid for the car is unknown. The price range is between €59,700 and €66,700.
- During the NFT and metaverse hype of 2021/2022, there was a huge rush for these unique crypto items. Even celebrities like Eminem and Justin Bieber caught the “monkey fever.” However, the collection is now worth only a fraction of its original value.
- The crossover between NFTs and the automotive world isn't limited to the artistic level, however. In 2022, Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo used the technology in the fight against odometer fraud. Read how it works here: How this SUV relies on blockchain
