Bitcoin domains: Sale of 280 addresses starting at one US dollar
- Lloyds Auctions is currently auctioning a portfolio of over 280 Bitcoin-related domain names, according to an official press release.
- According to the auction house, many of the domains were registered in 2010, shortly after the launch of Bitcoin.
- The collection includes key terms from areas such as wallets, exchanges, infrastructure, and education – including BitcoinWallets.com, BitcoinExchanges.com, BitcoinRemittances.com, and BitcoinBooks.com.
- The package also includes geo-targeted domains such as JapanBitcoin.com, GermanyBitcoin.com, and AfricaBitcoin.com.
- The original owners have not been identified. Due to the early registration date, the community is speculating about possible connections to the early Bitcoin developer scene.
- Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions, explains: “It's the architecture of Bitcoin's internet presence. Whoever wins this auction will own not only the name, but also the language of the digital Bitcoin economy.”
- Lloyds had already attracted attention in April with the sale of XBT.com for three million US dollars.
- The sale of over 280 Bitcoin domains starts on September 15, with the starting bid being one US dollar.
- Other crypto domains have already achieved high prices in the past: BTC.com was sold for around one million US dollars in 2014, and NFTs.com for 15 million US dollars in 2022. Ethereum domains have also sold for large sums.
