What you need to know:

  • Tokyo-based Metaplanet will create a Florida subsidiary, Metaplanet Treasury Corp., to improve its bitcoin treasury management strategy.
  • The new structure will have up to US$250 million in capital to support international operations and access to US institutional capital.
  • Florida was chosen due to its reputation as a hub for innovation and enterprise Bitcoin adoption.

Tokyo-based Metaplanet is forming a Florida-based subsidiary called Metaplanet Treasury Corp., strengthening its treasury strategy focused on bitcoin (BTC), making it the largest public holder of BTC in Asia.

The new entity will be capitalized at $250 million and will become Metaplanet’s dedicated U.S. treasury vehicle. The company noted that the move will support 24/7 operations across multiple time zones and expand access to U.S. institutional capital.

Florida was chosen due to its growing reputation as a hub for innovation and corporate adoption of Bitcoin.

“The state is rapidly becoming a global hub for accelerating Bitcoin innovation, corporate adoption, and financial liberalization,” Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said in a statement to X, translated from Japanese.

The move comes after a number of recent Bitcoin acquisitions by Metaplanet, the latest of which was 145 BTC last week, bringing the company's total holdings to 5,000 BTC.

Its approach is increasingly being compared to that of Strategy (MSTR), a US business intelligence firm and now a bitcoin investor whose active accumulation of BTC has become a core part of its corporate identity.
