An illegal mining farm, which caused damages of over 121 million rubles to Uralenergosbyt and Rosseti, was shut down in a Chelyabinsk suburb, the regional office of the FSB reported.
According to investigators, between November 2024 and April 2025, four suspects provided fictitious data to Uralenergosbyt, understating the volumes and capacities of electricity consumed. The group organizing the farm posed as several companies, including a specialized developer operating in the Chelyabinsk suburbs.
“The suspects disposed of the illegally obtained funds at their own discretion. A criminal case has been opened against these individuals under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale),” the FSB said in a statement.
Law enforcement agencies emphasized that one of the suspects is Maxim Yatsun, the owner of mining infrastructure and the son of Andrey Yatsun, a well-known Chelyabinsk entrepreneur. Andrey Yatsun ran for the Chelyabinsk City Duma, the regional legislative assembly, and the State Duma, and also ran for president of Russia.
Earlier, energy companies Rosseti Siberia-Kuzbassenergo-RES reported the liquidation of three illegal mining farms in the urban-type settlement of Promyshlennaya, the village of Tebenkovka, and the village of Panfilovo in the Kemerovo Region.
