30 crypto ETFs at the SEC: “No idea what's coming your way”
- Yesterday, October 3, several financial companies filed new cryptocurrency-related exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- According to Bloomberg Intelligence, there are over 30 applications from investors including REX Shares, Osprey Funds, and Defiance ETFs LLC. The funds are expected to track various cryptocurrencies, including Sui (SUI), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Hyperliquid (HYPE). Some of the products include staking components.
- REX Shares and Osprey Funds submitted 21 ETF proposals, according to published prospectuses. Defiance ETFs also applied for leveraged products that would track not only crypto assets but also stocks such as Tesla and Amazon.
- “Things are getting crazier,” Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart commented in an X article. ETF expert Nate Geraci explained: “Every crypto ETF imaginable will be filed with the SEC in the next few months. You all have no idea what's coming.”

- The large number of new ETF applications follows a regulatory development in recent weeks. Previously, the SEC approved proposals for new listing standards submitted by three exchanges. These changes affect a rule governing the trading and listing of commodity-based trust units. The adjustment eliminates the previously required 19b-4 process for many crypto ETF products, significantly shortening the approval process.
- However, the approval process is currently at a standstill: The US government has been closed since October 1 due to a lack of budgetary agreements. The SEC is operating with severely limited resources and is unlikely to take any action that could lead to the approval of new crypto ETFs for the time being.
