Austria: MediaMarkt equips all stores with Bitcoin ATMs

  • MediaMarkt Austria installed Bitcoin ATMs at all 56 locations in September 2025. This was confirmed by a press release obtained by BTC-ECHO. The company is cooperating with Kurant GmbH, which claims to operate more than 320 machines in Europe and is considered the market leader in Bitcoin ATMs.
  • The machines make it easy to purchase Bitcoin with cash. According to MediaMarkt and Kurant, the process is intuitive, requires no prior technical knowledge, and is supported by a user-friendly interface.
  • “Cryptocurrencies have long since become part of mainstream society – and with the Bitcoin ATMs, we are creating an offering that reflects the current zeitgeist while simultaneously underscoring our innovative strength and customer focus,” explained Jörg Bauer, Managing Director Sales MediaMarkt Austria and Switzerland.
  • Kurant also sees the collaboration as an important step toward digital financial infrastructure. “We see it as our mission to close the gap between traditional cash and the digital financial world,” says Managing Director Dr. Stefan Grill. Bitcoin ATMs are a building block for facilitating access to cryptocurrencies in everyday life.
  • In Germany, Kurant announced in June that it was temporarily suspending its vending machines due to an ongoing application process for a MiCA license.
