MetaMask token confirmed – is the big airdrop coming now?

  • Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin has announced that MetaMask's hotly anticipated MASK token could launch “sooner than expected.” This brings to light a topic the community has been speculating about for years.
  • Lubin explained that the token is closely linked to the decentralization of MetaMask, which aims to place the wallet, Infura, and the Ethereum L2 Linea more firmly in the hands of the community.
  • Lubin left open whether there would be a traditional airdrop for wallet users. However, the recent Linea token launch, in which 9.36 billion tokens were distributed to users and developers, has fueled speculation that MetaMask users could be rewarded.
  • MetaMask is the most used Ethereum wallet worldwide, with over 30 million monthly active users. Consensys, the company behind MetaMask, is one of the most important infrastructure providers in the Ethereum ecosystem and, in addition to the wallet, also develops services such as Infura and the Layer 2 solution Linea.
  • MetaMask has already issued its own stablecoin, mUSD, which can also be issued via its own credit card through a partnership with Mastercard.
  • Ethereum is tradable on Bitpanda. Users can buy and sell the cryptocurrency there securely and reliably.
