Michael Saylor joins Bloomberg's billionaire ranking

  • Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy, appears for the first time in the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. His estimated net worth is $7.37 billion, ranking him the 491st richest person in the world. The majority—approximately $6.72 billion—is tied to his stake in Strategy. The company currently holds 659,739 BTC, just under 3.4 percent of the Bitcoin supply, worth nearly $73 billion.
  • Bloomberg estimates that Saylor has an additional $650 million in cash. This puts Saylor alongside Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong ($12.8 billion, 234th) and Binance founder CZ ($44.5 billion, 40th). Sam Bankman-Fried was also on the list before the FTX collapse in 2022.
  • Despite its market capitalization and trading volume, Strategy was excluded from the recent S&P 500 index rebalancing. Analysts suspect qualitative reservations on the part of the selection committee. In August alone, Strategy acquired 7,714 BTC for approximately $847 million. The purchases were financed through several equity offerings, which Saylor describes as part of his “Bitcoin Defense Department.”
  • Saylor sees Bitcoin as “digital gold” and a superior monetary system. Through aggressive buying, he has made Strategy the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder in the world.
