$104,000 fee: Kraken customer with disastrous BTC transaction

- An unknown Kraken customer has boosted the balance sheet of the mining pool MARA. For a BTC transaction worth a mere 10 US dollars, the customer paid a whopping 0.99 BTC as a fee.
- BTC transaction fees do not go to the recipient, but to the miner who creates the block containing the transaction. In this case: the MARA pool.
- At today's price of $105,000, the fees amount to approximately $104,500. It was likely one of the most expensive transfers to the crypto exchange.
- It's unclear whether the sender confused the fee with the transaction amount. X user Mohrt commented: “That's about a thousand times too expensive for a simple Bitcoin transaction.”
