Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assured that Russian authorities are prepared to take Ethiopia's interests into account in military-technical cooperation (MTC). He made the announcement following talks with his Ethiopian counterpart, Gedion Timotewos.

Mr. Lavrov said they discussed, among other things, the work of the intergovernmental working group on military-technical cooperation, which met in May. “We also have very good traditions in this area, and we are always ready to fully consider the interests of our Ethiopian friends in ensuring their reliable defense capability,” the Russian minister added (quoted by TASS).

In October 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Mr. Putin stated that trade between the two countries was “showing positive dynamics.” Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Yevgeny Terekhin reported that bilateral trade between the two countries more than doubled in the first half of 2025, reaching $191.2 million.
