Crypto investment firm dao5 has raised $222 million to invest in blockchain projects aimed at government and institutional adoption, bringing the company’s total assets to $550 million.

Founded in 2022 by Tekin Salimi, who was previously a partner at Polychain Capital, Dao5 has made early investments in projects such as Story Protocol, Bittensor, Berachain, and EigenLayer.

The company’s first fund, launched in the dying days of the last bull market three years ago, is fully committed and has already returned “the vast majority of commitments to its limited partners,” according to a press release provided to CoinDesk.

“Crypto is entering a stage of maturity. The sector’s reliance on pure speculation as the main driver of growth is no longer as effective as it once was,” Salimi noted.

He stressed that future success will depend on “the real integration of blockchain technology into global financial, public and private systems.”

The new fund will focus on public blockchain infrastructure, new stablecoin systems, and “sovereign state artificial intelligence.”

In addition to fundraising, the company plans to transform its dao5 foundation into a decentralized autonomous organization by the end of this year. To support its growth, it has brought in George Lambeth, who has previously backed projects like Avalanche and Celestia, as a general partner.
