Zora, backed by Coinbase, has announced the launch of its token after a week of controversy

Zora has announced that its ZORA token will launch on April 23, just days after it went viral on X thanks to support from the Base team.
X’s message presented two snapshots of activity: the first covered the period from January 1, 2020 to March 3, 2025, and the second from March 3 to April 20, 2025.
Snapshots are a way to capture the state of a blockchain at a specific point in time, often used to reward users with tokens based on their activity during a given period.
Coinbase-backed Zora came into the spotlight last week after Base creator Jesse Pollack shared how the platform allows for the creation of “content coins” — tokens representing core images or phrases in a tradable format.

Pollack’s success with several Zora tokens has generated excitement and activity on the platform, where user numbers and token creation reached record highs late last week. The platform reportedly attracted more than 230,000 “new” traders (or wallets interacting with the platform for the first time) on Sunday.
The official Base account at X posted information about a token called “Base for Everyone,” causing its market cap to jump from a few thousand to over $17 million in just a few hours.
Blockchain experts later found out that three crypto wallets had purchased the tokens before the official announcement, which reportedly netted them a profit of $666,000.
